I have had requests for more drawing and so thought it would be nice to brighten up February with pastel drawing or as it is sometimes known as pastel 'painting'. Read on to find out more about which pastels to use and which paper to use it on. Its fun, quite messy but very vibrant!
Soft Pastels - these are chalky and crumble easily and these are the ones we are going to use. You can check out the pastels I have sourced from Jacksons Art online here https://www.jacksonsart.com/colour/pastel/soft-pastel/x_setorpack--set?product_list_order=price
These sets are half sticks and great for starting out. Colours blend together creating nuances of a 3rd colour. Difference in sets? More colours usually and the higher end have much more pigment in but the cheaper end ones are great for starting out. These are not to be confused with chalks or oil pastels which we are not using.
Pastel Paper - the pastel paper pads are good value, the papers come in a variety of colours which are great to try out. Working on black paper is dramatic and good fun or go for the assorted colour pads. Pastel paper has a 'tooth' which the pastels adhere to. Smooth paper doesnt allow the pastels to connect. Here is the link to the Jacksons suggested pastel paper pads
Other equipment - small paint brush is great for blending or a torchon (rolled paper into a stick, often at Hobbycraft or also online) and a putty rubber, great for lifting off.
