October Sketchbook Thursday

We continue with our sketchbook Thursday mornings on 29 October, the theme is "lilies on a pond' and for this we take inspiration from Monet and his water lilies pictured below.
If you want to come to the Sketchbook Thursday (29 October, 9.30 - 12) do get in touch by emailing me below, full details will be posted nearer the time in the weekly newsletter about art materials. I will also supply this image below for those that want to work from this particular painting.
Do check out his other paintings for inspiration, using the link below.

Try combining media such as:
Acrylic and soft pastels
Watercolour and pastel pencils
Gouache and watercolour
Colours to look out for - turquoise blue, white and blue greens, building up colours is key to achieving a depth of colour
Work in your sketchbook or complete a painting separately to include in the sketchbook, completing our blue theme which we had on our very first sketchbook morning. You could also work from your own pond photo or source that isnt a Monet and try this style that he famously did so well. Highdown gardens has a lovely pond and some great water lilies so a trip up to take photos would work really well.
Check out the rest of Monets' waterlilies here at the Musee de l'Orangie which have a completely different colour palette to the one above. You will also see how big these amazing paintings are.
Hope you can make it!
