Art Materials for 2025

I am planning new 2025 classes and one thing I am excited about is to get us started on developing a sketchbook. I will be holding classes on how to start and develop a sketchbook and what you can include in it. If this is of interest then you might want to treat yourself to a lovely sketchbook, more about that below. Also you may be thinking of adding to your existing art materials or maybe upgrade your watercolour paints? Here are a few items that I think would make your time at class even better!

  1. Tombow : Mono Zero Eraser Pen : 2.3mm Round Tip : Neon Yellow, comes in lots of colours and is £5.50 a super little rubber pen for getting small and fine lines out. Perfect for drawing and painting https://www.jacksonsart.com/tombow-mono-zero-eraser-pen-2-3mm-round-tip-neon-yellow

  1. Watercolour paper - buy A5 sheets, great for starting out and also cheaper. Watercolour paper is worth every penny when it is better quality = results. TIP: choose from 'NOT' this says it next to the product description https://www.jacksonsart.com/search/?q=watercolour+paper+a5

  2. Watercolour paints: please buy less tubes and better quality rather than a big set and poor quality, they simply don't work. DALERY ROWNEY ARE NOT VERY GOOD! There I have said it! I have been using Shin Han paints for some years now. When you buy better quality they last longer, years! You only need small amounts. Here are two links to two sets, the latter one I havent tried but is a good make. Shin Han: https://www.jacksonsart.com/shinhan-premium-extra-fine-watercolour-paint-15ml-main-colours-a-set-of-6

  1. Sketchbook - we will be using acrylic, watercolour, pen and pencils as well as sticking and much more all inside your sketchbook. We may even create our own sketchbook. When choosing a sketchbook it doesnt have to be expensive but it would be good if you can get

    • landscape format (where the pages are wider than taller)

    • has quite a few pages in

    • paper is not too flimsy so that you can paint on it and add other papers

  2. Putty Rubber: great for working with charcoal or lifting off heavy pencil lines, last for ages and really useful https://www.jacksonsart.com/winsor-newton-putty-rubber-medium

  1. Quiller Colour Book: when I am teaching I have the Colour wheel theory of Stephen Quiller in my head! Here is one of his books which is so informative and inspiring, also comes with the colour wheel

Hope that helps, let me know if you want any other recommendations, leave a comment below.

Best wishes Jane
