Join us for our last Thursday morning of the month - sketchbook class! This month we focus on The Garden. This might be a garden you have or had in the past, maybe an imaginary garden? Maybe you have visited a garden locally and were inspired in some way. One way of narrowing things down is to ask yourself a series of questions which could be:

When: 25 September, 9.30-12pm all abilities invited
  • What season am I choosing?

  • Can I get a photo or reference for the drawing or painting?

  • What do I like about my idea?

  • What materials do I need to be able to paint or draw my chosen idea?

Please note: it is not necessary to have attended any of the previous sessions, if you are keen to start a sketchbook or bring one you already have then do come along! You can see all of the previous blog posts about what we have done and check out the gallery (links below).

How it works: we work for the first quarter of an hour in small groups, teaming up with others helps with developing your sketchbook. Maybe you haven't touched it for a while? Chatting and working in small groups can inspire you to get going again.

What you will need:

  • a sketchbook, any size

  • garden inspired photos or reference materials and or drawings, check out how other artists have been inspired by gardens here (public domain) images here on Rawpixel

  • art materials - a selection of one or more watercolours, acrylics, drawing equipment even collage materials if you like using collage

  • water pot and other equipment you may need for painting/drawing

  • enthusiasm!

If you are able to attend do let me know through the weekly Thursday newsletter or here by emailing me to say you can come

Finally, sketchbooks are brilliant if you wish to go on and create paintings that are unique to you. They are equally great just for the sake of having and showing others or not, as the case may be. They can become a great visual diary or a spring point for more creativity.

Hope you can make it

best wishes Jane
